Barn Fire Ghost

     This story was related to me by a fellow fire fighter. He swears it is a true story.

     At three AM the fire dept. was called to a large barn fire in a rural area. When the first trucks arrived on scene an elderly lady met them and told them she had seen someone inside the burning barn. The Captain sent two fire fighters in to get the person.

     As they entered the smoke filled barn, the fire fighters saw what looked like a man run into the thickest point of the smoke. With their air packs on they followed the man inside. The roof at the back of the barn had burned through so when they emerged from the smoke cloud they saw the man standing at a ladder that led to the hay loft. He was pointing up and than as the fire fighters approached he turned and walked out of the barn through a large burnt out area of the barn.

     The fire fighters climbed the ladder and found an unconcious girl laying among the hay and burnt timber. They got her out of the barn and were able to get her breathing again with O2. The elderly lady said the girl was here grand daughter. The girl eventually was able to tell the fire fighters that she went to sleep in the barn after having a fight with her parents. When asked about the man that had shown them to the girl the elderly lady said that she had no idea who it could have been.

     After the fire was extinguished one of the fire fighters was in the farm house with the elderly lady getting information for the reports that would be filed. He saw a picture hanging from the wall near the entrance. He asked the lady about the people in the photo and she said that it was her husband and herself. The fire man soon left and it wasn't till they had returned to the fire hall when he told the others about the picture. In the photo was the man that had led them to the girl in the barn. The man had been dead for five years.
