Moorpark Elementary School

Moorpark's first elementary school, originally located in the small town of Fremont, or Fremontville, was moved in 1904 from the Agoure Ranch in the Peach Hill area (then part of Fremontville) to the NW corner of Charles and Walnut Streets in Moorpark. At that time, the name was changed from Fremontville School to Moorpark Elementary School. The bell rang every morning before school would begin and the students would line up and await their classes. Because of the many grades taught, the school was separated into two rooms, each room housing the different grade levels. Unfortunately, when Flory School was built in 1928, the old elementary school was torn down. This view of the school was taken from the intersection of Charles and Walnut Streets and shows to the left of the photo the platform where students would eat their lunch.
This is another view of the elementary school from June of 1912. Taken from the west end of Charles Street, it also shows the students' lunch platform.
