Prior to the construction of a new building, remodeling or adding to any existing building in the City of Simi Valley, construction permits must be obtained. Most buildings and structures are required to be designed by an Architect or Engineer registered with the State of
California. Prior to construction, drawings must be submitted with supporting documentation, such as structural engineering design calculations, engineer reports, specifications and other information to be
reviewed for compliance with applicable codes and design provisions. Once the submitted items are approved, permits can be issued to allow construction of the
building or structure. All permits are valid for a specified amount of time. For most larger projects such as housing tracts and large commercial/industrial buildings a pre
construction meeting is required. This meeting should include the project superintendent and any related subcontractors. The architect and the engineer of record should also
attend in case any information arises about the plans or calculations. If you are planning a home improvement project, and you have any questions about the
plan reviewing or permitting process, please call the Building and Safety Division at (805) 583-6723. |
