MIKE SEDELL
Mike Sedell was appointed City Manager of the City of Simi Valley on June 9, 1995. Prior to his appointment as City Manager, Mike had over nineteen years responsibility directly with the City
Manager for effective administration of City-wide programs including supervision over areas of public affairs, media relations, City Council-staff relations, governmental affairs, labor relations,
transit system operations and elections. Mike began working in Simi Valley in 1972 as a CSUN intern and has served the City in a variety of assignments since that time. He
worked as the City's Personnel Administrator and Community Services Coordinator, being involved with the Neighborhood Council Program and Youth Services, prior to being asked to
become part of the City Manager's office in l975. When then-Mayor Elton Gallegly was elected to Congress in 1986, he asked Mike to serve as his
Chief-of-Staff in Washington, D.C., and California. After three years with Congressman Gallegly, commuting between California and Washington, Mike made the decision that he preferred local
government to the national scene, and he came back to Simi Valley as the City's Assistant City Manager.
In addition to serving as Simi Valley's City Manager, Mike teaches an Intergovernmental Relations Seminar in the Master's Degree program in Public Administration at Cal State Northridge, and sits
on the Boards of Directors of the Ventura County United Way, and Interface, Children and Family Services of Ventura County.
Due to his contacts developed over the years in both Washington and Sacramento, Mike is often called upon by Simi Valley, and occasionally other cities, to assist whenever a legislative or
intergovernmental crisis occurs. Mike works with Sacramento legislators on budget issues affecting Simi Valley as well as other California cities, and has been a key player in developing the
final funding formula for local agencies. The Association of Ventura County Cities and the Ventura Council of Governments (VCOG) has
also used Mike as a resource to keep them informed of developments and to coordinate a Ventura countywide approach to Sacramento and Washington, D. C., whenever possible.
