The Senior Rent Subsidy Program has recently been modified to increase its availability to seniors living in Simi Valley that qualify for Section 8 assistance. Under this program, eligible seniors
receive a direct rental subsidy for up to 2 years as long as they agree to apply for the Section 8 program when it becomes available. The Area Housing Authority of the County of Ventura (AHA) operates and manages
the Senior Rent Subsidy Program on behalf of the City and is also the agency that administers the local Section 8 program. Seniors participating in the Program pay up to 30 percent of their income toward rent and
the City pays the balance according to the most-recently adopted AHA Payment Standard. The City's program is designed to assist up to 41 households on a monthly basis. The Senior Rent Subsidy Program was created
in 1989 to provide rental assistance to local very low-income senior households, age 62 and older, who were on the HUD Section 8 waiting list and were waiting for up to 5 years to be assisted through Section 8.
The City's program was designed to assist in this interim period. For more information about the Senior Rent Subsidy Program, contact the Area Housing Authority of the County of Ventura at (805) 480-9991 or the City's
Housing & Special Projects Division at (805) 583-6769. Applications for the City's program are available periodically on the Area Housing Authority's website at www.ahacv.org. |
