BIRMAN RESCUE

BIRMAN RESCUE BY REGION

Birman Breeders through the world are concerned about the unwanted pet population. Acting on this concern, pedigree cat breeders have incorporated spayed/neutering clauses in their sales contracts. In addition, we take the ultimate responsibility for every cat we bring into this world with a clause stating; if for any reason you can no longer keep the cat, and can not find a suitable home, the breeder will take the cat and care for the cat until a suitable home is found. Although it is rare, it does occasionally happen that a Birman falls through the cracks in this system. To insure against this from happening we have BIRMAN RESCUE.

The Birman is a very rare breed of cat, bred by a small group of breeders. Rarely does a Birman become available for adoption, so please be patient, If you can not wait nor can afford a Birman kitten from a breeder, ask a breeder if they have a retired Birman available at a reduce cost or consider a copycat. A copycat is an domestic cat that has a similar color patterns to the purebred Birman. We do occasional come across these cats and will list them here.

Pedigree Rescue is a coordinated effort of CFA through the various Breed Councils. The goal is to have a rescue contact person for every CFA region in the USA. If interested in this program please contact Gene Boroff or your regional rescue representative.

HOW OBTAIN A RESCUE BIRMAN

When inquiring, please state you are interested in a "RESCUE BIRMAN". Check with the regional contact person nearest to you. The regional contact person maintains a list of persons interested in acquiring a rescue Birman. Should a Birman become available they will contact you from their list.

Birman Rescue is only involved with Birmans in need of rescue. When a Birman is in need of rescue; we identify the Birman, rescue the Birman, contact the breeders, and arranged for permanent and foster care.

We have experience CFA judges and breeders who identify the Birman based of the CFA Birman breed standard, registration certificate, and sales contract. Our Birman are true pedigree purebred Birmans and not a look-alike that other rescue organizations claim falsely to be. This is false advertising!

Once the Birman has been identify we contact the breeders. Responsible Birman breeder have a contract that states that if the purchaser can no longer keep the cat the breeder must be notified - the breeder has the right to reposes in this situation. The breeder is first to provide for foster care until a permanent home can be found. All responsible Birman breeder work closely with Birman Rescue to insure that no Birman ever ends up into an animal shelter.

Should the breeder no longer be available (people die or become disabled) Birman Rescue volunteer assume this role and rescue. Should an owner who no longer wants their Birman and do not have the ability or will to contact the breeder, Birman rescue is here to insure that no Birman ever ends up into an animal shelter. We will rescue anytime, anyplace and anywhere.

Birman Rescue is not involved with adoption and sales of retired adults and kittens but you must specify that you are interested in a "RESCUE BIRMAN" Our volunteer are Birman owner and breeders who have taken their love of the breed, to a higher level, by specifying that you interest is for a RESCUE BIRMAN this will avoid any confusion.

Please be patient. Birmans are a very rare Breed. Breeders usually have a waiting list and it is not uncommon for potential kitten buyer to wait up to a year in order to purchase a kitten. With this scarcity and the high price of kittens it is understandable that the demand for Rescue Birman is far greater the hand few of Rescue Birman at may become available in a given year. So if your patients runs out you might want to contact a Birman breeder for a retired adult (just an older Birman). These Birman usually cost less the a kitten. The Birman breed club are a great source for answering all your questions about Birman.
