WHAT IS PAWS OF SAN DIEGO?

Pet and People

Pet ownership brings with it very special rewards. Pets are an important part of our emotional support network. They are a source of warmth, truse and unconditional love, and they ask little in return. Studies have shown that human-animal bond has a very positive effect on the emotional and physical well being. These effects include a positive attitude, lower blood pressure, and better managed stress. People with HIV/AIDS face many changes in their lives. Some experience the loss of health, employment, and friends. In these times the companionship of their pets offers real emotional and psychological benefits.

PAWS/S.D. MISSION STATEMENT

PAWS/S.D. is a federal tax exampt non-profit organization dedicated to helping people with HIV/AIDS keep their pets healthy and happy and with them for as long as possiable.

PAWS/S.D. is a relatively unique organization meeting old needs - helping those who can no longer physically and/or financially care for their pets at a time in their lives when unqualified love improves the quality of life. We believe that no one should be forced to choose: "Do I feed my pet and give the care it needs(exercise, grooming, shots) or do I take my essential food, rest, medication?" Those lying in hospital beds should not have to worry if their pets are going to be cared for durning their absence. All pet owners can relate to the horror of having a beloved pet sent to the pound. These fears are being address by

PAWS/S.D. as one way of brightening the lives of our friends with HIV/AIDS.

Be A Volunteer

PAWS/S.D. NEEDS VOLUNTEERS WHO CAN:

  • TRANSPORT PETS TO AND FROM THE VET
  • PROVIDE FOSTER CARE (1-8 weeks)

    DONATIONS

PAWS/S.D. operates almost entirely on donations with 100% of all contributions going directly to client needs. Unlike most other AIDS organizations less then 1 % of PAWS/S.D. yearly budget goes towards salary.

WITH PAWS/S.D. you can be assured that your hard-earned money is going directly to purchase pet food, supplies, or to help pay a client's vet bill. A donation of $20.00 or more helps feed a dog or a cat for one month. A donation of $100 provides a client with the financial assistance necessary to provide emergency medical services that could save their pets life. A donation of your time could help keep a client and his best friend together just a little longer. We at PAWS/S.D. are proud of the job we are doing and look forward to the day when our services are no longer needers.
