TECHNOLOGY CENTER
WELCOME TO OUR TECHNOLOGY CENTER PAGE
The goal of our program is to develop in students the attitude and ability to excel in a technology based world. Our Center includes 36 iMac computers networked to a G5 server, with classes that start in 1st grade and go through to the 6th grade. Classes are held weekly for 1/2 hour for 1st graders, and 45 minutes for 2nd through 6th graders. Our computer specialist, Ms. McAfee, works with teachers in the elementary grades to integrate the curriculum with her instruction in the Technology Center.
Last year, Westlake Hills' students were working with the "AppleWorks" Painting program in developing their math, artistic, and computer skills.

First graders learned different ways to make a triangle, square, circle, and line. Using only these shapes, they created and named their own robots. Check out our robot web page for examples of the remarkable robots they designed.
Second graders worked in AppleWorks Paint program making shapes and working with paint mode and pattern styles. Combining these tools they created the abstract paintings you see here.
Third through sixth graders enhanced their knowledge of geometry, art and technology by designing their own tessellations. Beginning with a perfect square they cut and dragged with the mouse to create their unique shapes. Using a variety of paintbrush shapes and colors they created some truly awesome designs that even M.C. Escher would be proud of. Page through to see examples of our students' work.
